How old is merlin the magician

During the Middle Ages, Merlin became very popular. Not only does he figure prominently in the French Vulgate Cycle, but he shines in the French and English romances. He is not as successful this time and was only able to obtain victory with the help of Duke Gorlois of Cornwall. During the following celebration, Uther falls in love with the Duke's wife, Igraine. This causes discord and then war between the two. Merlin intervenes and assists Uther, using his magic to disguise Uther as Gorlois.

While in disguise, Uther sneaks into the Duke's castle, and sleeps with Igraine, which is when Arthur was conceived. Later, Gorlois is killed and Uther marries Igraine. The legendary sword Caliburnus is the symbol of inheritance and right to rule Britain, and which was sealed by Merlin within a great stone or anvil, in some versions. It was sealed in a way so that only the rightful heir to the throne was able to remove the sword. Once Arthur withdrew the sword and became the king of England, Merlin served as the king's advisor.

Merlin was entranced by her magic, which was what caused him to be entrapped by her. Some of the more prejudiced Slytherins in later history also tended to ignore the fact that the esteemed Merlin was in fact a champion of Muggle rights and disdained pure-blood supremacism. Merlin had at least two portraits at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

One was located on one of the walls by the Grand Staircase , next to the the portrait of the old friend of his real-life counterpart and fellow courtier of King Arthur, Sir Cadogan. The other one was found in the Sphinx Clubhouse. On a later occasion, Merlin's portrait discussed the Cursed Vaults with his neighbouring portrait, Sir Cadogan , and the House Ghost of Gryffindor House , Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington , whom he confided that the Portrait curse were nothing more than a "trap guarding the mouth of an all-consuming beast ", and that a faceless interloper had been tampering with the portraits.

Later still, when questioned about whether he knew anything about a painting that was linked to any of the Cursed Vaults, Merlin's portrait recalled " a portrait of an underground chamber choked with shadow", and explained that in the case of the vaults, "one curse begets the next. Instead, when Sir. Cadogan called upon his painted companion to defend his honour and to help him correct the student, Merlin's portrait amusingly pretended to be unable to defend anything other than ancient magic, and told Sir.
