I think the mis-understanding about the Male Faery, both in his viewers and in the repressed male faeries mind as well, is they terminology of the word "Fairy", which of course, implies the Victorian archetype of the pretty female flower fairy. What we, and by this I mean "Boys", so often forget is that the word "Faerie" implies the vast realms of Fae Folks and can incorporate many masculine archetypes as well.
Let's start with the youngest of the Fae. A boy might be a Moss Faerie, swampy and a bit wet. Or perhaps a Fireling, fired up and full of action One of the off putting aspect of the male faerie, is his affinity for weapons from the earliest age.
