Can you get abducted in spore

I saw a shadow pass over me and looked up. There was a UFO. I got abducted! BTW, some of the missions you get in the space phase involve abducting creatures from other planets. It was difficult to tell since I was in a battle at the time. My one token village to destroy, since I usually play nice. It was nice to actually keep my pets this time, though. It's sad when they cower and cry out or try to run away and the aliens get them.
